Apprentice Junior Content Producer at London Borough of Barking and Dagenham

Job Description

 

Barking and Dagenham Council is going through a really exciting time. We’re changing the way we communicate with the people who live here. They are at the heart of everything we do so we’re talking to them directly about the things we know they care about using social media and other channels.

Are you looking for the chance to make a career out of your passion for filming and editing? We’re looking for someone who can help us produce high quality and engaging video content, unlike any other council. This person must be able to understand and deliver high-quality video and digital content as part of wider multi-channel marketing campaigns, and ultimately assist the digital communications team in continually evolving our offering.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Video content planning and development
  • Storyboarding, filming and editing promotional videos, news stories and entertainment shorts to a brief
  • Capturing images and video on cameras and smartphones, and editing using the organisation’s chosen editing software
  • Keeping on top of industry trends and innovations, researching new content styles and ideas
  • Pitching ideas for news posts and feature stories
  • Organising and managing content in the council’s digital library, ensuring it is labelled logically
  • Picture sourcing and editing
  • Attending out of hours events when required
  • Assisting with the updating of council’s website and social media channels
  • Evaluating the success of content as part of wider campaigns
  • Building strong professional relationships with the wider communications team, stakeholders and clients
  • Understanding the importance of the council brand and their role in protecting and improving the council’s reputation

Person specification

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Patient and understanding throughout the creative process
  • A strong team player who can work independently as well as within a team
  • Driven with a strong work ethic and can-do attitude, finding the most efficient and cost-effective way of creating polished, engaging content
  • Ambitious and hungry to learn new skills
  • Flexible and reliable
  • Willing to experiment with new software and self-learn in order to drive innovation
  • Genuinely interested in high-quality content media and clued up on industry trends and examples of best practice
  • Able to travel around the borough and further afield to capture content and cover live events on the council’s social channels
  • Highly organised and able to prioritise and manage a number of projects at any given time
  • Experienced in filming and editing video content
